Etymology
Juniperus refers to the Latin name for junipers.
gracilior refers to ‘relatively slender’; possibly indicating its quite slender branchlets.
ekmanii refers to the Swedish botanist E. L. Ekman, who collected the type specimen of var. ekmanii and var. urbaniana.
