Araucaria refers to ‘Araucania’, the region where A. araucana is found and its indigenous people (Mapuche) are also similarly called ‘Araucanians’.
schmidii refers to the plant collector M. Schmid.

Habitat
The natural habitats for Araucaria schmidii are subtropical/tropical moist montane forests. It is naturally found at an elevation of at least 1600 up to 1600 metres. There are no conifers associated with Araucaria schmidii that are known of.
