Etymology
Araucaria refers to ‘Araucania’, the region where A. araucana is found and its indigenous people (Mapuche) are also similarly called ‘Araucanians’.
subulara refers to ‘subulate’; indicating its foliage is slender and tapering to a point (awl-shaped).

Habitat
The natural habitats for Araucaria subulata are subtropical/tropical moist lowland forests, subtropical/tropical moist montane forests. It is naturally found at an elevation of at least 1100 up to 1100 metres. There are no conifers associated with Araucaria subulata that are known of.
