Araucaria refers to ‘Araucania’, the region where A. araucana is found and its indigenous people (Mapuche) are also similarly called ‘Araucanians’.
nemorosa refers to ‘of the woods’; indicating its habitat.

Habitat
The natural habitats for Araucaria nemorosa are subtropical/tropical moist lowland forests. It is naturally found at an elevation of at least 1 up to 200 metres. There are no conifers associated with Araucaria nemorosa that are known of.
